  5.   Years and years ago Novagen released "Encounter"  for the C64 and Atari 8-
  6.   Bits. It was a speedy  battlezone  clone  featuring  solid 3d graphics and
  7.   action-packed gameplay. It was highly  popular  then  but I find it rather
  8.   strange that it's been converted to the Amiga after all these years.

  10.   The idea is that you're placed in a  fast moving tank in a strange world -
  11.   your aim is simply to blast the  inhabitants  out of their tiny minds. All
  12.   this happens at a  frenetic  pace  as  you  blast  away  without pause for
  13.   thought or rest.

  15.   The graphics are ultra-fast solid  3D  although  the shapes themselves are
  16.   basic, colour  is  used  well  and  everything  is  bright  and attractive
  17.   although it tends to look rather dated. Sound is very poor, especially the
  18.   music which has obviously been lifted  straight  off the Atari ST and then
  19.   been messed around with to make it even worse.

  21.   As a budget  game,  Encounter  would  have  made  an interesting purchase,
  22.   especially for those into early gaming nostalgia,  but as a full price the
  23.   story is a little different and  £20  for  a  fit of nostalgia is a little
  24.   high methinks. Backlash (the original follow up to Encounter) is available
  25.   for next-to-nothing these days and the gameplay is basically identical.

  29.   Graphics       65%  Simple but VERY fast.
  30.   Sound          10%  The only plus point is that there IS some sound.
  31.   Gameplay       50%  For me very dated - but others will like it.
  32.   Overall        60%  A strange release all things considered.
